Tokyo is the number 1 at the list of the world’s largest cities. However, the Japanese capital has strong competitors, because the following cities are catching up fast and in some cases are recording significantly greater population growth. Depending on the statistical calculation method, however, the lead is still considerable. The Far Eastern metropolis not only has the most inhabitants, but also a great many sights. There are both the famous Japanese high-tech flair, as well as historic temple complexes, to discover. The millennia-old culture can be found in many places. For Western visitors, the vibrant skyline and pulsating night views with the eye-catching Japanese characters alone make a trip to Tokyo unforgettable. 2. Jakarta

Jakarta is perhaps the surprising second largest city in the world. The Indonesian capital seems to be expanding unceasingly. Also called Jabodetabek, the megacity has the historic city of Jakarta at its center and is spreading to the surrounding areas at highspeed. Unfortunately so is the underground below the city, therefore there are considerations to move the capital to a more safe place, but it seems that this hasn’t bothered the attractiveness of good ol’Jakarta too much until now.

3. Delhi

The third largest city of the world is Delhi, capital of the second most populous country of the earth, yes, that is India. Delhi is so big, that it actually has the city New Delhi in its center and consists of multiple urban centers. No wonder here, because it is also one of the oldest cities of the world, which might explain a bit of the numerous changes and rebuilds which now contribute to this impressive megacity.

4. Manila

The capital of the Philippines, Manila, is right in the Top 5 of the biggest cities of the world. The top reason for that: Metro Manila, a global power house which gets bigger and bigger.

5. Seoul

The fifth largest city of the world is Seoul. It is an urban territory that has grown significantly beyond the original city core as well. The Seoul Capital Area (SCA), also known as Sudogwon, is home to more than half of South Koreas total population.
